FTP & Power Zones

Calculate your cycling FTP from a 20-minute or ramp test, then get all seven Coggan training zones plus your power-to-weight ratio in watts per kilogram.

Needed for watts per kilo, which is what decides climbing.

How this is worked out

FTP is the power you could hold for about an hour. Because almost nobody wants to do a one-hour maximal test, it is estimated from a shorter one and corrected downward: 95% of a 20-minute best average, 90% of a 2 × 8-minute average, or 75% of best one-minute power on a ramp test.

Zones are the standard seven-zone Coggan model, each a fixed percentage band of FTP. Watts per kilogram is FTP divided by body mass — the number that decides what happens when the road tilts up, where raw watts decide what happens on the flat.
